Ha Giang Jeep Tour 4 Days 3 Nights – Back Roads, Culture & Off the Beaten Track
Ha Noi Toursjeep – Premium Private Tours Led by Women
FOUR DAYS TO SEE THE HA GIANG THAT MOST TRAVELERS MISS
Ha Giang is not a destination that should be rushed.
Beyond the famous mountain passes and dramatic viewpoints is another side of the province: quiet valleys, traditional villages, old mountain roads, terraced fields and communities where daily life continues far from the main tourist route.
This private 4-day Jeep journey is designed for travelers who want both.
You will see the landscapes that made Ha Giang famous, from Bac Sum Pass and Quan Ba to Dong Van, Lung Cu, Ma Pi Leng and the Nho Que River. But you will also leave the classic route behind and travel deeper through Mau Due, Du Gia, Duong Thuong, Thai An and Bac Me.
The result is a more complete Ha Giang experience: spectacular landscapes in the north, authentic village life in the valleys and enough time to slow down and appreciate the journey.
ITINERARY
Hanoi – Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Quan Ba – Nam Dam – Lung Tam – Yen Minh – Tham Ma – Sung La – Lung Cu – Lo Lo Chai – Hmong King Palace – Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Mau Due – Du Gia – Duong Thuong – Thai An – Bac Me – Ha Giang – Hanoi
DAY 1
Hanoi – Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Quan Ba – Nam Dam – Lung Tam – Yen Minh
Leave Hanoi in the morning and travel north toward Ha Giang. The journey gradually changes from the lowland countryside into a world of limestone mountains, winding roads and deep green valleys.
Once in Ha Giang, meet your local Jeep driver and Vietnamese women-led tour team before beginning the mountain journey.
The first major climb takes you across Bac Sum Pass toward Quan Ba. At Heaven Gate, stop above the valley for your first panoramic view of the Ha Giang mountains and the famous Twin Mountains.
Continue to Nam Dam Village, a peaceful Dao community known for its traditional clay houses and distinctive local architecture. Rather than simply passing through, take time to walk around the village and see a quieter side of northern Vietnam.
After lunch, continue toward Lung Tam.
Lung Tam is known for traditional textile and handicraft production. Visit a local family or workshop to learn how handmade fabrics are created and discover more about the cultural traditions of the communities living in the area.
In the afternoon, leave the main road and continue toward Yen Minh through quieter mountain scenery. The route passes valleys, villages, forested hills and dramatic limestone formations.
Arrive in Yen Minh and check into your accommodation.
Dinner and overnight in Yen Minh.
DAY 2
Yen Minh – Tham Ma Slope – Sung La – Lung Cu – Lo Lo Chai – Hmong King Palace – Dong Van
Today you enter the heart of the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
After breakfast, continue by open-air Jeep toward Tham Ma Slope. The famous winding road climbs dramatically through the mountains and provides one of the most recognizable views of the Ha Giang Loop.
Continue to Sung La Valley, surrounded by limestone peaks and traditional mountain villages.
From Sung La, travel farther north toward Lung Cu, close to the Vietnam–China border. Visit the Lung Cu Flag Pole and enjoy the vast mountain views from one of the northernmost points of Vietnam.
Continue to Lo Lo Chai Village, home to the Lo Lo community. Traditional houses, narrow village paths and a distinctive local culture make this one of the most interesting stops in the northern mountains.
After lunch, continue toward the Hmong King Palace in Sa Phin.
The historic palace provides a different perspective on Ha Giang, connecting the spectacular landscapes around you with the history of the Hmong communities that have lived in this region for generations.
In the late afternoon, continue to Dong Van.
Check into your accommodation and enjoy dinner in town. If you wish, take a walk through Dong Van Old Quarter in the evening and experience the quieter atmosphere after the day’s journey.
Overnight in Dong Van.
DAY 3
Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Mau Due – Du Gia
Today is the transition from iconic Ha Giang to the less-visited side of the province.
Leave Dong Van after breakfast and follow the legendary Happiness Road toward Ma Pi Leng Pass.
This is one of the most spectacular sections of the journey. The road cuts through enormous limestone mountains, with steep cliffs rising above deep valleys.
Stop at several viewpoints along Ma Pi Leng to appreciate the scale of the landscape. From high above, the Nho Que River appears far below, winding through the dramatic gorge.
Continue toward the Nho Que viewpoints and take time for photographs before descending toward Meo Vac.
After Meo Vac, the character of the journey begins to change.
Instead of staying on the busiest part of the classic loop, your private Jeep turns toward Mau Due. Roads become quieter, villages more remote and the landscape increasingly peaceful.
This is where the back-road experience really begins.
Continue through mountain valleys and rural communities toward Du Gia. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop for photographs, meet local people and simply enjoy the changing scenery.
Arrive in Du Gia in the afternoon.
Tonight is intentionally different from a conventional hotel stay. You will stay with a traditional Tay family in the peaceful Du Gia Valley.
Enjoy a home-style dinner and spend the evening surrounded by mountains, rice fields and village life.
Overnight in Du Gia.
DAY 4
Du Gia – Du Gia Waterfall – Duong Thuong – Thai An – Bac Me – Ha Giang – Hanoi
Wake up in Du Gia to a completely different atmosphere from the mountain towns of the previous two days.
After breakfast, visit Du Gia Waterfall, surrounded by green hills and forest. Depending on weather and local conditions, there may be time to relax beside the water or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Then leave Du Gia and continue through the quieter roads around Duong Thuong.
This part of the journey is not about collecting famous attractions. It is about seeing the countryside: rice terraces, limestone mountains, small villages and valleys where everyday life continues at a slower pace.
Continue along Thai An Road toward Bac Me.
The route becomes increasingly rural as you move away from the main Ha Giang tourist circuit. Stop when the scenery calls for it, take photographs and enjoy the final mountain landscapes of the journey.
Continue toward Ha Giang City.
After arriving in Ha Giang, transfer to your private vehicle for the journey back to Hanoi.
Relax during the drive south as the dramatic mountains gradually give way to lower hills and countryside.
Arrive in Hanoi in the evening.
End of your private 4-day Ha Giang Jeep adventure.
THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE
A standard Ha Giang itinerary can take you through the famous viewpoints and back again.
This journey goes further.
You begin with Bac Sum Pass, Quan Ba and Lung Tam.
Then you travel north to Sung La, Lung Cu, Lo Lo Chai and Dong Van.
You cross Ma Pi Leng and look down toward the Nho Que River.
But instead of ending the experience there, you turn toward Mau Due and Du Gia.
The final day takes you through Duong Thuong, Thai An and Bac Me before returning to Ha Giang.
Four days gives you enough time to experience both sides of the province: the spectacular Ha Giang that everyone photographs and the quieter Ha Giang that many visitors never reach.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE LANDSCAPE
The mountains are only part of Ha Giang.
The province is home to many ethnic communities, each with its own traditions, architecture, textiles, food and way of life.
Along this journey, you encounter Dao, Hmong, Lo Lo and Tay communities in different parts of the region.
From the clay houses of Nam Dam and the textile traditions of Lung Tam to Lo Lo Chai and the Tay family homestay in Du Gia, the journey creates opportunities to experience local culture rather than simply drive past it.
A NIGHT WITH A TAY FAMILY
The night in Du Gia is one of the defining moments of the tour.
After several days surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, you slow down and stay in a traditional Tay village.
Dinner is enjoyed with your hosts, and the evening is peaceful and informal. There is no busy tourist town outside your door, just the valley, mountains and village life.
For travelers looking for a deeper connection with northern Vietnam, this night often becomes one of the most memorable parts of the journey.
WHY A PRIVATE JEEP?
You do not need to ride a motorbike to experience Ha Giang.
The open-air Jeep allows you to enjoy the same mountain roads while leaving the driving to an experienced local driver.
You can look around, photograph the landscape, talk with your travel companions and enjoy the mountain air without concentrating on every bend in the road.
The Jeep also makes the journey comfortable for couples, families and private groups who want adventure without the physical demands of riding a motorbike.
Most importantly, this is your private vehicle. There are no strangers joining your group and no fixed group schedule.
