Ha Giang Loop – Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Ba Be Lake Jeep Tour 6 Days 5 Nights Led By Women
Ha Noi Toursjeep – Premium Private Tours Led by Women
THE GRAND NORTHERN VIETNAM JEEP JOURNEY
Six days. Four extraordinary destinations. One private journey through the mountains of northern Vietnam.
This is our most comprehensive private Jeep experience in the northeast, connecting the dramatic landscapes of Ha Giang with the remote mountains of Cao Bang, the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall and the peaceful waters of Ba Be Lake.
The journey begins with the legendary Ha Giang Loop, where mountain passes rise above deep valleys and traditional communities live among the limestone peaks. From Dong Van and Ma Pi Leng, the route continues away from the classic loop toward Bao Lac and Cao Bang.
Then the landscape changes again.
Waterfalls replace high mountain passes. Limestone caves replace open valleys. Traditional Tay villages appear beside rivers and lakes.
The final stage brings you to Ba Be National Park, where the pace slows down completely before the journey returns to Hanoi.
Travel throughout the mountain regions by private open-air Jeep, with experienced local drivers and a Vietnamese women-led team managing the journey from beginning to end.
ITINERARY
Hanoi – Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Tham Ma Pass – Hmong King Palace – Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Mau Due – Du Gia – Bac Me – Bao Lam – Me Pia – Bao Lac – Cao Bang – Nguom Ngao Cave – Ban Gioc Waterfall – God’s Eye Mountain – Ba Be National Park – Ba Be Lake – Pac Ngoi Village – Hanoi
DAY 1
Hanoi – Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Tham Ma Pass – Dong Van
Leave Hanoi in the morning by private vehicle and begin the journey north.
The first hours take you through the countryside before the landscape gradually rises into the mountains. Once you reach Ha Giang, meet your local Jeep driver and Vietnamese women-led team and continue the journey by open-air Jeep.
Cross Bac Sum Pass toward Quan Ba and stop at Heaven Gate for your first panoramic view of the Ha Giang mountains.
From above, Tam Son Valley stretches between enormous limestone peaks, with the famous Twin Mountains standing prominently below.
Continue through Yen Minh, where the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Forested hills, terraced fields, limestone formations and small mountain villages appear along the road.
After lunch, continue deeper into the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
Cross the spectacular Tham Ma Pass and visit the Hmong King Palace in Sa Phin, a historic site connected with the Hmong communities of the region.
Continue to Dong Van Town in the late afternoon.
Check into your accommodation, enjoy dinner and have time to explore the small old quarter before resting for the night.
Overnight in Dong Van.
DAY 2
Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Mau Due – Du Gia
Today brings some of the most spectacular mountain scenery of the entire journey.
Leave Dong Van after breakfast and follow the famous Happiness Road toward Ma Pi Leng Pass.
The road climbs high above the valleys, with enormous limestone cliffs and dramatic mountain ridges surrounding you.
Stop at selected viewpoints along Ma Pi Leng to appreciate the landscape and look down toward the Nho Que River far below.
The open-air Jeep makes this section particularly enjoyable. There is no need to concentrate on riding a motorbike, so you can simply watch the mountains, take photographs and enjoy the changing scenery.
Continue toward Meo Vac before leaving the main tourist route and heading toward Mau Due.
The atmosphere becomes quieter as the road passes through smaller communities, mountain fields and remote valleys.
Continue toward Du Gia in the afternoon.
As you descend into the Du Gia Valley, the landscape becomes greener and more peaceful.
Arrive at your accommodation, enjoy a local dinner and relax after a full day in the mountains.
Overnight in Du Gia.
DAY 3
Du Gia – Bac Me – Bao Lam – Me Pia – Bao Lac
Today the journey leaves the classic Ha Giang Loop behind.
After breakfast, travel from Du Gia toward Bac Me through quieter mountain roads.
The landscape becomes increasingly remote as the route crosses forests, limestone valleys and traditional communities. There are fewer major tourist attractions today, but this is exactly what makes the journey special.
The road itself becomes the experience.
Continue through Bao Lam, stopping along the way for photographs and scenic breaks. Mountain ridges appear and disappear around every bend, while small villages sit between the forests and valleys.
As you approach the Me Pia area, the landscape becomes particularly dramatic.
The mountain road winds through the rugged terrain in a remarkable series of bends. Stop at a suitable viewpoint to appreciate the scale of the surrounding mountains and the extraordinary road below.
Continue toward Bao Lac.
Arrive in the peaceful mountain town after a full day on the road.
Check into your accommodation and enjoy dinner.
Overnight in Bao Lac.
DAY 4
Bao Lac – Cao Bang – Nguom Ngao Cave – Ban Gioc Waterfall
Leave Bao Lac after breakfast and continue toward Cao Bang.
The scenery changes gradually as you travel east. Limestone mountains remain a constant feature, but forests, valleys and greener countryside become increasingly prominent.
Continue toward the Ban Gioc region and visit Nguom Ngao Cave.
Inside the cave, enormous stalactites and stalagmites create a completely different landscape from the open mountain roads you have experienced during the previous days.
After exploring the cave, continue through the countryside toward Ban Gioc Waterfall.
Then comes one of the defining moments of the journey.
Ban Gioc is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Vietnam, surrounded by green valleys and towering limestone mountains. Take your time to enjoy the falls from the surrounding viewpoints and, when conditions and local operation allow, experience the waterfall from the water on a traditional bamboo raft.
Continue to your accommodation near Ban Gioc.
Enjoy dinner and a peaceful evening in the countryside.
Overnight near Ban Gioc.
DAY 5
Ban Gioc – God’s Eye Mountain – Cao Bang – Ba Be National Park – Ba Be Lake
Wake up in the peaceful Ban Gioc region and begin the next stage of the journey after breakfast.
Leave the waterfall area and travel through the mountains of Cao Bang toward God’s Eye Mountain.
This distinctive natural formation rises above a green valley surrounded by limestone peaks. Stop to enjoy the scenery before continuing through the countryside.
The road gradually takes you away from Cao Bang and toward Ba Be.
This is another important transition in the journey.
The dramatic high mountains begin to soften into forested hills, green valleys and quieter rural landscapes.
Continue toward Ba Be National Park.
Arrive in the Ba Be area in the afternoon and check into your accommodation.
Depending on your accommodation choice, you may stay near a traditional Tay village, surrounded by rice fields and forested mountains.
After several days of mountain roads, this evening offers a chance to slow down.
Enjoy dinner and relax beside one of northern Vietnam’s most peaceful natural environments.
Overnight in Ba Be.
DAY 6
Ba Be National Park – Ba Be Lake – Pac Ngoi Village – Hanoi
The final morning begins at a much slower pace.
After breakfast, explore the Ba Be area and discover the natural landscape around Ba Be Lake.
Surrounded by limestone mountains and dense forest, Ba Be offers a completely different atmosphere from Ha Giang and Cao Bang.
If conditions and timing allow, enjoy a private or locally arranged boat experience on Ba Be Lake.
From the water, the scale of the lake becomes even more impressive. Forested mountains rise around the shoreline while small communities remain hidden among the valleys.
Continue to Pac Ngoi Village, a traditional Tay community beside the lake.
Take a walk through the village, observe the traditional houses and learn more about the local way of life.
Enjoy lunch before beginning the return journey to Hanoi.
The final drive takes you through the peaceful countryside of northern Vietnam. Gradually, the mountains become lower and the landscape transitions back toward the capital.
Arrive in Hanoi in the evening.
End of your private 6-day Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Ban Gioc and Ba Be Jeep journey.
WHY THIS JOURNEY IS DIFFERENT
This is not simply a longer version of the Ha Giang Loop.
The route is designed as a journey through several different mountain environments.
Ha Giang gives you dramatic passes, limestone plateaus and some of the most famous mountain roads in Vietnam.
The road toward Bao Lac introduces a quieter and more remote side of the northeast.
Cao Bang brings caves, waterfalls and a different landscape.
Ban Gioc provides the spectacular centerpiece.
Then Ba Be changes the rhythm completely, replacing dramatic mountain roads with forests, villages and calm freshwater landscapes.
Six days gives each destination enough space to be experienced rather than simply checked off a list.
FROM THE HIGHEST PASSES TO THE QUIETEST LAKE
One of the most rewarding aspects of this itinerary is the change in scenery.
On Ma Pi Leng, you stand high above a deep mountain valley.
Around Bao Lac, you travel through remote roads where the mountains close in around the Jeep.
At Ban Gioc, water crashes through the limestone landscape.
At Ba Be, the mountains become quieter and the water becomes still.
The journey feels different every day.
THE PEOPLE OF NORTHERN VIETNAM
The landscapes are spectacular, but the people make the journey meaningful.
Along the route, you pass through communities belonging to different ethnic groups, each with its own traditions, architecture, food and way of life.
The journey creates opportunities to stop in villages, meet local people and experience a side of northern Vietnam that cannot be understood simply from a viewpoint or tour bus.
We work with local communities and local service providers wherever possible, helping tourism create meaningful opportunities beyond the major tourist centers.
BAN GIOC AND BA BE: TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES
Ban Gioc and Ba Be are often treated as separate destinations.
Combining them creates a much richer journey.
Ban Gioc is dramatic: waterfalls, cliffs, caves and rugged mountain scenery.
Ba Be is peaceful: forests, calm water, traditional villages and a slower rural atmosphere.
Experiencing both at the end of a Ha Giang journey gives the trip a natural progression from adventure to relaxation.

IMPORTANT NOTES
Northern Vietnam is mountainous and remote. Expect winding roads, long driving days and changing weather conditions.
The itinerary may be adjusted when necessary because of weather, road conditions or local circumstances. Safety and comfort always come first.
The open-air Jeep can operate in different weather conditions, but we recommend bringing a light jacket, comfortable clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses and suitable walking shoes.
This is an adventure through remote mountain regions and involves several hours of road travel each day.
The optional boat experience on Ba Be Lake depends on weather, water conditions and local operation.
EXTEND YOUR VIETNAM JOURNEY
Six days in the north can easily become the beginning of a longer private Vietnam journey.
After returning to Hanoi, continue south toward Central Vietnam or explore more of the north with our private women-led tours.
