Ha Giang Loop & Ban Gioc Waterfall Jeep Tour 5 Days 4 Nights Led By Women

Ha Noi Toursjeep – Premium Private Tours Led by Women

FROM HA GIANG’S HIGH PASSES TO BAN GIOC WATERFALL

Two of northern Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain regions can be experienced in one private journey.

This 5-day Jeep adventure begins in Ha Giang, where enormous limestone mountains, winding passes and highland villages create some of the most dramatic scenery in Vietnam. From there, the route moves beyond the classic Ha Giang Loop, crossing remote mountain roads toward Bao Lac and Cao Bang before reaching the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall.

The journey is deliberately designed as a one-way mountain adventure rather than simply completing the same loop and returning. Every day brings a different landscape.

You will experience the high passes around Dong Van, the dramatic cliffs of Ma Pi Leng, the peaceful valley of Du Gia, the remote roads around Bac Me and Bao Lam, the extraordinary Me Pia Pass area and finally the waterfalls, caves and Tay villages of Cao Bang.

Travel is by private open-air Jeep, with experienced local drivers and a Vietnamese women-led travel team taking care of the journey from Hanoi and throughout the mountains.

ITINERARY

Hanoi – Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Tham Ma Pass – Hmong King Palace – Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Mau Due – Du Gia – Bac Me – Bao Lam – Me Pia Pass – Bao Lac – Cao Bang – Nguom Ngao Cave – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Khuoi Ky Village – God’s Eye Mountain – Hanoi

DAY 1

Hanoi – Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Dong Van

The journey begins in Hanoi with a private transfer north toward Ha Giang.

As the lowlands disappear behind you, the landscape gradually changes. Roads climb higher, limestone mountains begin to dominate the horizon and the atmosphere becomes noticeably quieter.

Arrive in Ha Giang and meet your local Jeep driver and Vietnamese women-led travel team. From here, continue into the mountains by open-air Jeep.

The first major mountain road takes you across Bac Sum Pass toward Quan Ba.

At Heaven Gate, stop above the valley for panoramic views over Tam Son and the famous Twin Mountains. The scale of the landscape gives you an immediate sense of how different this region is from northern Vietnam’s lowlands.

Continue through Yen Minh, passing mountain villages, forests, terraced fields and limestone formations.

After lunch, the road climbs deeper into the Dong Van Karst Plateau.

Travel through the spectacular Tham Ma Pass before visiting the Hmong King Palace in Sa Phin. The historic residence offers an interesting connection between the dramatic landscape and the history of the Hmong people who have lived in these mountains for generations.

Continue to Dong Van.

Check into your accommodation and enjoy dinner. In the evening, there is time to walk around Dong Van Old Quarter or relax after the long mountain journey.

Overnight in Dong Van.

DAY 2

Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Mau Due – Du Gia

Today begins with one of the most spectacular roads in Vietnam.

Leave Dong Van and follow the Happiness Road toward Ma Pi Leng Pass.

The road climbs high above deep valleys, with enormous limestone cliffs rising on both sides. Stop at several viewpoints to appreciate the landscape and photograph the Nho Que River far below.

The scenery here is dramatic, but the journey becomes even more interesting after leaving the main viewpoints.

Continue toward Meo Vac before heading through the mountain roads around Mau Due.

This section feels increasingly remote. Traditional villages, terraced fields and isolated valleys replace the busier tourist stops.

Enjoy lunch along the way before continuing toward Du Gia.

By late afternoon, arrive in the peaceful Du Gia Valley, surrounded by green mountains and rice fields.

Check into your accommodation and enjoy dinner in the village.

Du Gia provides a completely different atmosphere from Dong Van: quieter, greener and much more connected to traditional rural life.

Overnight in Du Gia.

DAY 3

Du Gia – Bac Me – Bao Lam – Me Pia Pass – Bao Lac

Today marks the transition from Ha Giang to Cao Bang.

Leave Du Gia after breakfast and follow a quieter mountain route toward Bac Me.

The roads become less familiar as the journey moves away from the classic Ha Giang Loop. Forests, limestone mountains, small villages and deep valleys dominate the landscape.

Continue through Bao Lam, an area where the mountains feel increasingly remote and untouched.

There are fewer famous tourist stops today. Instead, the road itself becomes the experience.

Your private Jeep can stop along the way for photographs, local encounters and scenic breaks whenever conditions allow.

The highlight comes as you approach the Me Pia Pass area, where a remarkable mountain road winds through the landscape in a series of tight bends.

Take time to appreciate the view and the extraordinary geography of this part of northern Vietnam.

Continue toward Bao Lac.

After a full day on the mountain roads, arrive in this peaceful town surrounded by limestone peaks and forests.

Check into your accommodation, enjoy dinner and relax.

Overnight in Bao Lac.

DAY 4

Bao Lac – Me Pia Pass – Cao Bang – Nguom Ngao Cave – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Khuoi Ky

The journey continues east toward Cao Bang.

Leave Bao Lac after breakfast and travel through another spectacular section of mountain road.

As you approach the Me Pia area, the mountains rise dramatically around the route. Stop at a suitable viewpoint to appreciate the winding road and surrounding valleys before continuing toward Cao Bang.

Gradually, the landscape begins to change.

The high limestone mountains remain, but greener valleys, forests and traditional villages become more prominent as you approach the Ban Gioc region.

Continue to Nguom Ngao Cave, one of the most impressive natural caves in Cao Bang.

Inside the cave, enormous limestone formations have been shaped over thousands of years, creating a completely different experience from the open mountain landscapes outside.

After the cave visit, continue toward Ban Gioc Waterfall.

Then comes one of the great visual moments of the journey.

Ban Gioc Waterfall stretches across the border landscape between Vietnam and China, surrounded by green mountains and limestone cliffs. Take time to enjoy the waterfall from different viewpoints, and when local operation and weather conditions allow, take a bamboo raft for a closer perspective.

In the late afternoon, continue to Khuoi Ky Village.

The traditional Tay village is known for its distinctive stone houses and peaceful setting near the waterfall region.

Enjoy dinner and spend the night around Khuoi Ky.

Overnight near Ban Gioc.

DAY 5

Ban Gioc – God’s Eye Mountain – Cao Bang – Hanoi

The final morning begins in the peaceful countryside around Ban Gioc.

After breakfast, leave the waterfall region and continue through the mountains of Cao Bang.

Visit the God’s Eye Mountain area, a distinctive natural formation surrounded by green valleys and limestone peaks. The landscape here feels completely different from Ma Pi Leng and the mountains of Ha Giang, showing just how much northern Vietnam can change within a few days of travel.

Continue toward Cao Bang City.

Enjoy lunch before beginning the return journey to Hanoi.

The afternoon is spent relaxing in your private vehicle as the mountain landscape gradually changes into lower hills and countryside.

Arrive in Hanoi in the evening.

End of your private 5-day Ha Giang and Ban Gioc Jeep journey.

TWO MOUNTAIN WORLDS, ONE JOURNEY

What makes this itinerary special is the transition between Ha Giang and Cao Bang.

Ha Giang is defined by high mountain passes, enormous limestone plateaus and dramatic valleys.

Cao Bang feels greener and more secluded, with waterfalls, caves, forests and traditional villages spread throughout the mountains.

Instead of treating them as two separate destinations, this journey connects them naturally by road.

You start among the high passes of Dong Van and finish beside Ban Gioc Waterfall.

The route between them is the adventure.

THE JOURNEY BEYOND THE CLASSIC LOOP

The first two days cover the essential landscapes of the Ha Giang Loop.

But after Du Gia, the journey changes direction.

You leave the familiar tourist circuit and travel through Bac Me, Bao Lam and Bao Lac.

These quieter roads allow you to experience a side of northern Vietnam that is less commercial and much more remote.

By the time you reach Cao Bang, the scenery has transformed again.

This makes the 5-day itinerary more than a longer Ha Giang tour. It is a genuine northern mountain crossing.

MA PIA AND THE REMOTE MOUNTAIN ROADS

Some of the most memorable moments are not necessarily the places with the biggest names.

The roads around Bac Me, Bao Lam and Me Pia are part of the attraction.

Mountain roads disappear around bends, valleys open unexpectedly below you and small communities appear between the limestone peaks.

Traveling privately means there is no need to rush through these sections. When the landscape deserves a stop, you can stop.

When you want to continue, your Jeep continues.

BAN GIOC: THE GRAND FINALE

After several days of mountain passes and remote valleys, Ban Gioc Waterfall provides a spectacular final highlight.

The scale of the falls is impressive, but the surrounding landscape is equally important: green valleys, limestone mountains, peaceful villages and the distinctive scenery of the Cao Bang border region.

Staying near Ban Gioc means you are not simply arriving, taking a photograph and leaving.

You have time to experience the area when the day becomes quieter.

TRAVEL BY PRIVATE OPEN-AIR JEEP

The Jeep is an important part of the experience.

Ha Giang and Cao Bang are famous for their winding mountain roads, but you do not need to ride a motorbike to enjoy them.

Your experienced local driver handles the mountain roads while you enjoy the scenery from an open-air vehicle.

The elevated seating position gives you wide views of the mountains, valleys and villages, while the open design allows you to feel the fresh mountain air.

It is a comfortable option for couples, families, friends and private groups who want adventure without the physical demands of riding themselves.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Ha Giang and Cao Bang are remote mountainous destinations. Driving times can be long, roads are winding and weather conditions can change quickly.

The itinerary may be adjusted when necessary due to weather, road conditions or local circumstances. Safety and comfort always come first.

The open-air Jeep can operate in different weather conditions, but we recommend bringing a light jacket, comfortable clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses and suitable walking shoes.

This is an adventure through remote mountain regions. Travelers should be comfortable spending several hours on winding roads each day.
